Produced Water Treatment

Produced Water Treatment is an important step in your process

Produced water comes to the surface during production of oil & gas. The produced water can be re-used or discharged. Therefor it’s important the produced water is treated properly to protect the well, equipment and/or environment. When the oil and gas reservoirs are almost depleted, almost 98% of the produced fluids is water. Therefore, treatment of produced water up to the required quality levels becomes an increasing cost factor. Dutch Filtration provides reliable and efficient solutions for treatment of produced water.

Requirements of the customer

  • Continuous treatment of produced water for reuse or discharge
  • Flexible filtration settings because properties of produced water depends on geographical location
  • Prevent well contamination and water pollution
  • Remove dissolved and dispersed oil compounds, dissolved formation minerals, production chemical compounds as well as solids (formation, corrosion, scale, bacteria, waxes, and asphaltenes) and dissolved gasses
  • Reduce disposals costs

Solution

  • Reliable filter package to handle solid loads as well as
dissolved and dispersed oil compounds and chemical compounds
  • Beta5000 pleated elements

Dutch Filtration will give you:

  • DNV certified, heavy duty equipment for reliable filtration operations. Where efficiency and HSE is the priority
  • Custom designed produced water treatment package, best fit for discharge or re-injection
  • High reliability and quality against balanced OPEX and CAPEX
  • 24/7 customer service, personal and quick response

Produced water, treatment and challenges

What is produced water?

Produced water is water produced during production of oil& gas. It includes water produced from the reservoir but also the water what is used for water injection to increase the formation pressure. This water will also come to the surface during production. The largest volume of produced water comes from onshore wells.

Different options to handle produced water

There are several ways to re-use produced water, the treated produced water can be re-used for water injection or it can be used in oil & gas processing industries. The most economical way to handle produced water is disposal. It could be re-injected into government approved deep saltwater reservoirs. Or the produced water is injected into the same oil well from where it is obtained. A third way is to treat the produced water for discharge or to convert it into an asset.

Challenges in produced water treatment

Worldwide there is an increase of use of fresh water in different applications such as process industry, agriculture and energy production. But with the continuous growth of world population there is also a significant challenge to supply drinking water. Therefore, it is very important to treat the produced water for re-use or disposal. The greatest barrier for reuse produced water in domestic applications is the public acceptance, there are concerns about unknown toxic effects. The properties of produced water are mostly depending on the number of years of contact with the subsurface, the geological formation, the type of hydrocarbon that is being produced and the geographical location. Most fluids contains dissolved and dispersed oil, solids from formation, scale, corrosion, bacteria’s etc., chemicals and dissolved gasses. Dutch Filtration can help you analyzing the inlet conditions and outlet requirements to select the best filter package
