Surface Water Intake

Surface Water Filtration for sustainable and continue production

Surface water intake is used in a variety of industrial applications. Surface water is drawn from a water source such as a river, sea, lake or reservoir.

It is important to filter intake water for multiple reasons; protection of industrial equipment, improving product quality, meeting regulatory requirements and protecting the environment. By investing in high-quality industrial water filters, companies can ensure that their operations are sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly.

Surface Intake Water Filtration

Surface water contains a wide variety of contaminant particles in a wide variety of sizes. Lakes, sea, rivers and stream contains sediment such as clay, sand and silt but can also contain contamination from animals, human waste and toxins and chemicals runoff. Furthermore, during warm periods of the year algae can grow explosively in surface water of rivers, streams and lakes. Another challenge is mussel seed. Mussel seed adheres easily to pipes and other hard surfaces.

Sediment build up and the consequent loss of efficiency is one of the main problems in heat exchangers, nozzles, ion exchange systems, seals, membranes and other sensitive equipment. Therefore, filtration is an important step in the surface water intake process.

Surface water intake is used in a variety of industrial applications

Surface water has many useful applications such as;

  • Process water for industrial production processes
  • Cooling water for power plants, datacenters, food industry and steel industry
  • Aquathermia, Thermal energy for cooling and heating buildings
  • Municipal water supply, production of Drinking water
  • Irrigation

Depending on the geopgraphical location the surface water is taken from a lake, river or stream or sea. Surface water utilities in the Netherlands often use river or canal water for surface water intake.

Why is it important to use industrial water filters for surface water intake?

Protection of your machinery and equipment: The surface intake water contains high levels of suspended solids and other impurities that can harm your equipment. Also the mussel seed can stick to hard surfaces and within a short time an entire mussel colony can grow there. All these can affect the operation of the machinery This will ultimately cause downtime and a drop in your productivity.

Sustainable production: On the environmental side, the focus is on production processes that support sustainable production. Rapid population growth, industrialization, urbanization and climate change are exacerbating the situation. It is also necessary to ensure that the waste water generated does not pollute the environment. People are increasingly aware of the need to protect the environment.

Improving product quality: Many industrial processes require high quality water to ensure desired product quality. Industrial water filters can improve the quality of water used in industrial processes by removing impurities and contaminants from surface water, improving product quality and consistency.

Compliance with legal requirements: Many industries must comply with local, state, and federal water quality regulations. Using industrial water filters ensures that surface water used in industrial processes meets these legal requirements.

By investing in high-quality industrial water filters, industries can ensure that their operations are sustainable, efficient, and environmentally responsible.
