Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth is a very good filtration media and filter aid. Diatoms have a large variation in shapes and they have a honeycomb structure. Because the pores between the cell walls are very small, it is easy to trap clay particles, bacteria and other suspended solids from liquids. Another advantage of the small diatoms is the irregular packing, this creates a complex matrix with a very high porosity. It allows the filter media to remove very small particles and it extends the flow rate. The holding capacity of the diatomaceous earth is very high this allows a much longer filter cycle and more solids will be removed compared to other filtration methods.
